Introduction
This programme is a follow-on to the Thinking skills (Analytical, Critical and Creative) course. Thinking skills define the problem, identify the possible causes, develop solutions and design persuasive arguments to have the recommended solution accepted.
Decision-making skills are needed throughout the problem-solving process. It is used to decide what possible causes of the problem to focus on, how to design solutions and to select the “best-fit” solution to recommend. The 6 biases in decision-making are clearly explained to avoid falling into these traps. Factors often forgotten are highlighted so that these are always included in making decisions.
A 5-step methodology is used to ensure people do not rush off to solve symptoms but defines the problem statement, identifies the root cause(s), analyses relevant data and have implementation issues considered in designing practical solutions.
